We all know the drill to land a job, right?

You need to constantly search for the most apt open positions for you on job portals. Shortlist a few openings and then apply to all of them, hoping to get a call back from at least a few of them.

Now, imagine that luck is completely favouring you and you get a call from that one company you were dying to work with. This is the job that you always dreamt of and now you have been called for the first round of interview at their office.

You are extremely determined to get this job and you don’t want to goof this up in any case. This is why you work very hard preparing for the interview, anticipating the questions they would ask you.

The day of the interview finally arrives and everything goes really well. You feel that you have cracked the interview.

But when you’re just waiting for an offer from this company you get a mail saying “We regret to inform you but you’re not a suitable candidate for this job”.

On receiving this mail you’re completely shattered and disappointed. You didn’t see this coming at all.

Okay. What would you do if this actually happened to you? Would you keep agonizing over what has happened or would get over it, soon?

Let me tell you, getting over it is the only way you can work on your shortcomings and move on.

This is why we have put together 5 ways to get over rejection, read on.

1. Accept the rejection

The first thing you need to do is accept that you are rejected for the job. It’s obvious that you would be angry at yourself during this time, but making peace with yourself is a must.

There may be many reasons why you got rejected, so why assume anything and stop curse yourself?

Also, remember that rejection isn’t the end of the world and rather learning from it can lead to better things in the future. Again, all you need to know is that you tried your best and the next best opportunity is on the cards.

2. Learn from your experience

Instead of scrutinizing the interview for your mistakes and thinking about where you fell short, think about the parts of the interview that went well.

Think of instances you and the interviewer got along. Think of the questions you answered correctly, which impressed the interviewer. Keep them in your mind for the next opportunity.

Remember, thinking about the “wrongs” will only discourage you and affect your self-confidence. So, think about what went well and how can you improve them further.

3. Stop overthinking about it

Overthinking over why you got rejected is going to do no good, as you’re going to make assumptions which may not be true.

Again, instead of thinking over what you should have done in the interview, think of what you can do next time.

Remember, justifying the mistakes you made in an interview and why you didn’t get the job is simply going to waste your time.

4. Improve yourself

For our contentment, we need to constantly develop new skills and transcend our goals over and over again. Learning from our mistakes and honing our craft is a must for our sense of achievement and to gauge our self-worth. This is the time to boost our self-worth.

You can also improve by asking for feedback from your peers and friends so that you know the issues you need to fix.

5. Do again

Why getting rejected mean that you deter from doing again? In fact, by doing again you start noticing your mistakes and you begin to see the bigger picture where things went wrong.

Remember, great scientists would hardly have achieved what they have, if they had always got accepted at the first time. Actually, doing again and again and the attitude of always going after what they want has made them successful.

Again, it’s okay to fail because success and achievements d only hide your shortcomings. Failures help you grow. Remember, rejections are a part of life and are inevitable, but just means that you are one step closer to achieve what you set to achieve.

Self-improvement is the key to success. In fact, even after you succeed you could keep learning and self-improving. You can constantly raise the bar for yourself.
